The Princess

Long ago, there was a castle in the far north with a young Princess. She was new to the world and full of adventure. Her days were spent dancing in the courtyard to the sunshine, swinging on her most favourite tree swing and playing with her Guardian. They were the best of friends and did almost everything together. Sworn to protection, the Guardian always looked out for her.

Without warning, the skies darkened and the wind began to howl. From the darkness emerged a huge Being made of metal. The Princess was scared – frozen in fear. As the Being bent down to scoop up the Princess, the Guardian dashed across the courtyard and lunged to her aide. The Guardian was no match for the Being, and the Princess was gone.

|
That night, saddened by the loss of the Princess, the Guardian sat in a candle-less room with only the Moon to betray their emotions. Through the large windows, a silhouette of the Being could be seen in the mountains. As thoughts of shame rolled through the Guardian’s mind, something became clear: The Being was too powerful to confront alone, so help will be needed.

Familiar Faces

The next morning, the Guardian went to the village bright and early to look for help. It was alive with an excitement that the Guardian had not seen in a long time. Everyone saw the events of the day before and wanted to help. It wasn’t before long that the strongest and bravest volunteered to accompany the Guardian on this quest to reclaim the Princess.

The group was still no match for the Being, so they decided it must be stopped from the inside. The Guardian spotted a hole in the foot and climbed inside while the group distracted the Being. The maze of wires and tunnels seemed to go on forever. Climbing higher and higher, the Guardian finally came upon the Being’s brain and the captive Princess.

Alarms everywhere had sounded; the Guardian had been spotted! With no time to waste, the Guardian dashed swiftly and precisely to avoid the Being’s defense. One by one, the connections to the core were severed and it began to shut down. In the final moments, the Guardian grabbed the Princess and made a break for the exit. Through the chaos of sparks and smoke, they emerged from the Being and ran to safety.

Reflections

The Princess was safe, but the Guardian was still sad. “I’m sorry Princess, I promised to keep you safe forever and never let anything bad happen to you.” The Princess just smiled, hugged her Guardian and said “You can’t promise that, but you can always promise to come save me when I’m lost.” The Guardian smiled back and never broke that promise.
